Lake Varese

Schiranna · 10 min by car

Our home lake. The cycle and walking path goes all the way round, almost entirely flat: it starts from Schiranna, where the rowers train. Off Biandronno lies Isolino Virginia, a prehistoric pile-dwelling site and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lake Maggiore

Laveno · 30 min by car

On the Lombardy shore: the Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso, the monastery on a cliff above the water; the Rocca di Angera; Laveno, with the Sasso del Ferro cable car and ferries to the Piedmont shore and the islands.

Lake Lugano

Lugano · 30 min by car

Porto Ceresio, on the Italian shore, and Lugano in Switzerland, with its lakefront and centre. Drive there via the Gaggiolo border crossing, or take the train from Varese station.

Lake Como

Como · 30 min by car

Como, its cathedral and the funicular to Brunate. It is 30 minutes by car: an easy day trip.

Sacro Monte and Campo dei Fiori

10–15 min by car

Above Varese: the sacred way of the Sacro Monte, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Campo dei Fiori Regional Park, with trails, the observatory and views over the lakes and the Alps.

By bike, on foot, on the green

By bike

The Lake Varese loop is the easiest route; the climbs to the Sacro Monte and Campo dei Fiori are those of the Tre Valli Varesine race. You can bring your bike inside the apartment.

On foot

Trails in the Campo dei Fiori Park and the sacred way of the Sacro Monte, starting a few minutes' drive from Casa P17.

Golf

Golf Club Varese is in Luvinate, at the foot of Campo dei Fiori.

With your dog

Pets are allowed (€30 per stay) and the Villa Augusta park is right behind the house, for the morning walk.

Guests who came for the lakes

“Located 10 minutes' walk from the city centre, it makes it easy to visit Lake Maggiore and Lake Como by car. The city of Varese is also worth the detour: besides the centre, you must go up to the Sacro Monte, a UNESCO World Heritage religious sanctuary.”
